When are
you going to meet that special someone in your life? You have heard it
thousands of times before.
- "Be
patient."
- "You will
meet him (or her) when you least expect it."
Or my
personal favorite.
- "You will
meet him when the time is right."
Well since
most people don't have a lot of patience the right time for
us is NOW!
While
these statements may be all true. Do you really think that you can just
sit back and do nothing until, Voila! The one you have been waiting for
suddenly appears. In the fairy tales, maybe. In real life, I don't
think so!
So here is some action that you can take to help make it happen!
According to recent scientific studies, your social life, hence your
love life can improve dramatically just by doing one thing.
Maybe this is something that you are already doing or should be doing
on a daily basis. Well maybe if you start doing this then you will meet
that special someone for your life.
So what is it? Okay well I will give you a hint. Since this is
a site about training dogs the one action for you to take does have
something to do with your pet.
Okay I will get on with it.
According
to these studies you will greatly increase your chance of meeting new
people just by WALKING YOUR DOG!
Huh? That is the big secret? Yep. Walking your dog does make a
difference.
The study was performed by Dr. June McNicholas, a senior researcher at
the University of Warwick, in Great Britain. She conducted 2 studies using guide dogs
in both.
No one knew that they were guide dogs. Guide dogs were used because
they are trained to ignore
people walking by. She wanted to make sure that people
started the interactions instead of the dogs.
STUDY # 1
In the first study Dr. McNicholas went about her daily routine
for 10 days.
Her routine consisted of shopping, taking children to school, and
walking to classes at the university, etc.
She went about this for 5
days with a dog and for 5 days without a dog.
She then documented the number of people that she interacted with
indicating whether they were friends, acquaintances or strangers.
The
results were astounding!
The
presence of a dog raised the number of times a casual acquaintance
spoke to her by 200%!
But even more astounding than this is that with a dog the number of
strangers that spoke to her increased by... Are you ready
for this? The number increased by....
Over
2100%
That is absolutely crazy! Without
a dog only 3 strangers spoke to her during this time
period.
Whereas when she was
with a dog over 65 strangers spoke with her! She did not
do anything different. She just walked a dog.
STUDY # 2
The 2nd
study she did was to see if the results were any different if the
walker and/or the dog's appearance were made to look more intimidating.
A male walker took a large black dog on walks in the park. Sometimes he
dressed very nice and the dog wore a colorful color and leash.
At other times he dressed shabby and the dog wore a studded collar with
a tattered rope as the leash.
Again the
results were beyond belief!
Fewer
people spoke with the man when he was dressed shabby than
when he was dressed nice when he was alone.
However,
when the dog was present there was no major difference!
The dog itself made people more social whether the dog or the man
looked intimidating or not.
Wow! So what does this tell us?
"Dogs act as
social 'ice breakers' and help people strike up friendly conversation
with others," says Dr. June McNicholas.
She goes
on to state, "...It is
difficult for us to strike up a conversation with a complete stranger –
all sorts of ulterior motives may be suspected. But being with a dog
(or other pet) gives a safe, non-threatening, neutral topic to start a
conversation."
So just by taking your dog for a walk you can greatly increase
the chances of meeting love.
And do you want to know the best place to take your dog for a walk?
Well here it is. Your
local dog park!
You will definitely be sure to see other people walking their dogs
there.
Who knows maybe tomorrow will be your day. So don't take this
lightly.
Sure it is
not the big magic, easy button. But what is? Many people have met their
partners this way so don't think it is not possible. You don't believe
me?
Okay well here's the
proof! These are bits of information I found online in
random places to prove that this works.
"just wanted to share some great news, well at least i think it is
great news!!!
Russell
(Boomer's daddy) and I (Meeko's Momma) just got ENGAGED!!! We
met in Oct 2007 at the dog park in Warwick City Park! If it wasn't for
the dog park who knows if or when we would have met!!! Anyway, we just
thought it would be nice to share our good news with everyone!!! :)"
