There are a
number of different dog training techniques that people use to train
dogs. The most popular training methods include clicker training and
dog
crate training.
Both of these methods of training have proven effective
in training dogs to be obedient and to follow their owner’s commands.
Clicker training makes use of a mechanical device that give off a short
‘click’ sound whenever your pet does the right action or exhibits the
correct behavior. The clicker is known to be a safe method to train
dogs as it is a way to communicate with your pet.
With crate training, your pet is placed in a crate which is just large
enough for it to lie down in comfortably. This type of training is very
effective for housebreaking
a dog.
Clicker
Training
This popular dog training technique is based on behavioral psychology.
The clicker is used to indicate to your pet which behavior is desirable
and then rewarding your pet for it.
By using the clicker, you are
communicating clearly with your dog that certain types of actions are
desirable.
Positive reinforcement is achieved by rewarding your pet with dog
training
treats and praises. The idea is so that your pet will
associate a click
with an action and a reward.
You can teach your dog any form of behavior that it is capable of doing
physically though clicker training. When you are training your dog to
sit, you use the clicker to make a ‘click’ sound each time your dog
sits down when commanded.
You follow this with praise and a treat. Clicking indicates to your pet
exactly what action will bring the desired reward. In this case, praise
and treats.
The reason why clicker training is so effective is because your dog
does not hear the click sound in normal everyday circumstances. When
you communicate everyday, you use many words which are not familiar to
a dog. Your intonation also expresses the words differently.
Although we are verbally oriented when communicating, dogs are not. It
becomes difficult for a dog to know what you want when it has to pick
out your verbal command from a string of words it cannot understand.
However, by clicking, your pet completely understands what’s required
and will obey your command to sit, stay or fetch accordingly.
Your pet
is able to interact with you much better with clicker training. Both
you and your dog will find the training sessions that much more
enjoyable.
Crate Training
This is one of the more popular dog house training techniques. Puppy
crate training techniques involve placing your pet into a crate
which is big enough for it to move around in and sleep in. However, the
crate should not be large enough for your pet to do its business in.
It’s an excellent way for puppy potty training as your pet
will learn to
hold it in until you let it out to go potty.
Rather than let your pet have the run of the house, crate
training
a puppy teaches your dog to remain quiet within a confined
space. This becomes
especially important when you’re traveling and have to bring your pet
along.
You can also ensure your dog doesn’t get in the way of your
guests when you have friends over for a Christmas party.
Crate training is one of the best puppy potty training techniques.
This is because it is ideal for puppies to learn how to do their
business
at regular scheduled times. As your little pet needs to relieve itself
at least 6 or 7 times a day, crate training helps your pet control
itself until you bring it out to do its business.
You can reinforce good behavior when crate training your dog by giving
it special treats for obeying your commands. Don’t place too much food
or water in the crate because your dog will then need to go outside for
potty.
Make the crate comfortable with chew toys and a blanket so your
dog will not rebel when you put it in the crate.
Both clicker training and crate training are popular dog training
techniques. You need to have patience and consistency when you train
your dog to obey your instructions. Always reinforce good behavior with
rewards like doggie
treats.
